From Wednesday 1 May, the MRC/University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) will transfer entirely to the University of Glasgow.

From Wednesday 1 May, the MRC/University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) will transfer entirely to the University of Glasgow in accordance with a UK-wide process for many medical research centres which sees an end to direct involvement in their running by the Medical Research Council. The Centre's name remains unchanged and the MRC retains input to research strategy and direction.

The recommendation to accept the CVR transfer was approved by University Court earlier this month. The approval was subject to the satisfactory resolution of some outstanding issues.  Court delegated authority for the final processes to the Principal, the Secretary of Court and the Convener of Court. A similar process involving the MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit is expected to follow in June.

The mission of the CVR is to carry out multidisciplinary research on viruses and viral diseases of humans and animals, translating the knowledge gained for the improvement of human and animal health. Prof Massimo Palmarini is the Director of the CVR: he works with 19 principal investigators, and their associated teams. The total staff and student complement is in excess of 150.
