The Scottish Infection Research Network (SIRN), working with the Chief Scientist Office and the Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Policy Unit of the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates, is pleased to make available up to £1.8m for translational research on healthcare associated infection.

Director of SIRN, Professor Alistair Leanord said, “This major investment will enable the development of a number of important research streams into the causes, nature and prevention of infections within our healthcare facilities. The research will have the clear, directed and focused aim of reducing infections within hospitals. Furthermore, it will focus on the evidence gaps for what we presently do, allowing us to use the research findings to reduce the burden of HAIs and ultimately improve patient care.”

Applications for HAI-related projects are now invited for submission before 11 January 2013. Further information is available from the SIRN website: www.glasgow.ac.uk/sirn.
