University’s JourneyShare scheme top in UK

Published: 25 February 2011

Did you know the University has a travel planning website to help you plan alternative methods of transport to and from work?

Our recent Travel Planning survey has shown that more University staff than ever are currently using alternatives to single occupancy car use to travel and from work, supported by Travel Planning schemes available at the University.

In fact, car-sharing has proven so popular that the University’s JourneyShare system was judged the UK’s most successful public scheme during the first annual national Liftshare Week (4-10 October 2010). More than 100 new members signed up to the University’s JourneyShare scheme during that week alone.

You can join them, by registering on http://www.gla.ac.uk/travelplanning/journeysharing/

Alternative methods of transport can help staff and students save both money and the environment. This includes public transport, cycling, walking or journeysharing.  Check the Travel Planning website for much more information on the facilities the University offers: http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/estates/organisationstructure/estatesadministrationservices/travelplanning/

The results of the 2010 staff and student travel survey show the following trends in travel habits between 2008 and 2010:

 Staff:
Walking: Up 2.3% to 22.6%
Cycling: Up 2.7% to 10.1%
