Library Search is changing
We are introducing a new Library Management System and a new, improved Library Search.
The new Library Search will provide a better search experience and make it easier to discover resources from the University of Glasgow Library and libraries worldwide.
Most users will not need to do anything, as many services and features will continue as normal. However, some changes are unavoidable. This page explains what is changing and highlights any action you may need to take.
Preparing for the new Library Search
Saved items
If you have saved items in the current Library Search, you need to export them before 14th July 2026.
Saved items cannot be transferred to the new system. You can export them to EndNote or another reference management tool, email them to yourself, or print the item details.
+++
Export saved items
- Log in to your Library Account, then choose the Bookmark icon to access your Saved Items
- Choose how you would like them to be exported - either as they appear in the list, or in a citation style e.g. Harvard
- Choose to:
- Export to a citation manager like EndNote
- Print the items, or
- Email the items to yourself
If you do not export your saved items before the system changes, Library staff may still be able to help you access them. Please get in touch for support.
---
The new Library Search will also let you save items and searches, and choose whether to keep your search history.
Reading history
If you currently use Reading History, you need to export it before 14th July 2026.
Your Reading History cannot be transferred to the new system. You can export the details of the items you have borrowed by email or download.
Reading history is an optional service. It only shows items borrowed after you chose to opt in, and it cannot be applied retrospectively.
+++
Export reading history
- Log in to your Library Account and choose My Reading History to access your previously borrowed items
- Choose Export Reading History
- Choose the format you want the items to be exported in, and whether you want to email them to yourself, or download them then choose Submit
---
In the new system, you will be able to choose whether to keep a record of your reading history.
Borrowing physical items during transition
There will be a short pause in borrowing physical items while we move to the new Library Search and Library Management System.
During this time, you will not be able to borrow physical items from the Library. We expect this pause to take place between 10th and 15th July 2026 and to last no longer than a few days.
Implications for Reading Lists
Reading lists will remain available on 14 and 15 July 2026 while links to Library items are updated.
You can still view and use reading lists during this time, but please avoid adding new items until the update is complete. This will help prevent broken or incorrect links.
Existing hyperlinks to items
Some direct links to records in the current Library Search or Classic Search may stop working after the new Library Search launches.
This may affect links in Moodle courses, training materials, guides, documents, or webpages. Some links will redirect temporarily, but others may need to be updated.
If you manage content with direct links to Library Search records, please check and update these links after launch.
