During his research fellowship at the University of Glasgow Library, Matthew will make use of the Papers of the MacFie Family Collection at the Scottish Business Archive to further develop and support his ongoing research into the role that emotions and family relationships played in shaping the dynamics of family firms in the past. In particular, he will make use of the voluminous personal correspondence in the collection to understand the role that emotions played in the succession planning and arrangements of the family.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to spend time working with the University of Glasgow’s outstanding Business History collections. Having the chance to work in depth with the Papers of the MacFie Family Collection at the Scottish Business Archive will enable me to further develop and expand my understanding of the role that emotions and family relationships played in shaping the dynamics of family firms in the past. ”
