Glasgow Makes People: 575 years of student life, a new display in the Library exhibition area, is now open.

The exhibition explores the evolution of student life since 1451 and considers how the University and the city have influenced generations of students, not just as scholars, but as people.

By highlighting life beyond the classroom (clubs and societies, sports, entertainment, representation and wider student life) it offers a fresh perspective on what it means to be part of a university community with a 575-year history.

Visit the exhibition to journey from the University’s early days at Glasgow Cathedral, through the Old College on High Street and the move to Gilmorehill in 1870, to the diverse campuses of the present day.

Hear members of the 2026 student community reflect on the institution’s past, present and future, and add your own voice to the University Archive.

Glasgow Makes People runs throughout 2026 and will accompanied by a programme of talks and events. Explore extra multimedia content and make your own contribution on the Glasgow Makes People webpage.

The exhibition is free and open to all.

Find the exhibition area on Level 2 of the University Library, to the left of the Library entrance.
