Nigel Hutchins

Learning Materials Development Coordinator

I have supported learning and teaching for the past 30 years. Much of that time has been spent working with colleagues, creating and delivering innovative learning media with the aim of enhancing the student learning experience.

Areas of responsibility

I am responsible for a range of media productions, and coordinating activities to develop effective learning materials.

I manage a team of staff who produce a broad range of media related to learning objectives that support the University’s strategic aims; in particular, we support the development and delivery of technology-enhanced learning and teaching.

Who should contact me

Do you want to develop and enhance your teaching using media rich content?

Have you seen examples of work you like, but don’t know how to achieve it?

Throughout LEADS there is an extensive wealth of educational knowledge; together, we will help you take your ideas to the next level, creating innovative and engaging content.

Please contact either me or a member of the team. We will be more than happy to assist in any way we can.

Media Technician

I have an HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. All of my experience is in Educational Television, including 20 years in the Educational Technology Unit at St. Andrews College, and 18 years here at the University of Glasgow (first in Media Services, and now LEADS). I am experienced in camera operations - multi and single - and in editing to a high standard using Abobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

Areas of responsibility

I am responsible for recording and producing high-quality videos of lectures and presentations, videos in support of both MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) and BOLD (Blended Online Learning Design) courses, and also University promotional videos.

Who should contact me

Contact me if you have questions on any of the areas I’ve mentioned above.

Andrew Sim

Andrew Sim

Media Technician

As a creator of video and documentary works, I have been supporting higher education since 2007 - initially at Dundee and Abertay Universities - and joined Glasgow in 2015.

Areas of responsibility

Our team produces teaching materials for online and blended course delivery, as well as event coverage and promotional pieces. I tend to deal mainly with blended online course work, but can discuss any video-related staff or student requirements.

Who should contact me

If you think you might want to make any kind of moving-image work within the University, particularly for teaching purposes, then the earlier you contact us, the easier it will be to do!

BOLD Support Adviser

I have a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Cambridge, an MSt English Studies (Medieval) from the University of Oxford, and an MSc Psychological Studies (conversion) from the University of Glasgow, where I was also the graduate student representative for the British Psychological Society. My professional background is in cinematography, independent digital video production and post-production, and factual programming (Arts). I have a particular interest in applications of technology to improve outcomes in education and wellbeing. I use Adobe Creative Suite, Moodle and Articulate.

Areas of responsibility

I work as part of the Media & Digital Development team at LEADS, where I produce high quality media for educators seeking to implement media as a part of their teaching practice; as well as to capture ceremonies, memorial lectures, and special seminar series. I also develop multimedia resources on the Moodle platform using Articulate Rise and Storyline. I have an advisory role that supports and develops implementation of blended and online learning resources by teaching staff across all the University’s Colleges.

Who should contact me?

I welcome enquiries from anyone in the University who wishes to implement audio, video or new media as a part of their professional practice, or who seeks advice on media implementation from a pedagogically informed perspective.
