Teams Voice

The University of Glasgow will move away from physical phones to use Microsoft Teams Voice for all external and internal calls.

Benefits

  • We can lower the University's overall carbon footprint and use less power by reducing the number of telephone handsets required
  • You will be able to use Microsoft Teams to make telephone calls within and outside the University, enabling you to make and answer calls wherever you are
  • Conferencing and collaboration will be easier, as Microsoft Teams Voice integrates into other Office 365 applications
  • Provision of a support centre that will provide a range of options for internal support, student recruitment and support services within the University, with capability to implement omni-channel contact centre - including telephony, email, web chat and social media

We will keep you updated as we introduce Teams Voice and you will be notified in advance when you have access.

To help with implementation, please make sure your telephone directory information on Core HR is up to date. After logging in, select My Profile (your photo icon) and then Contacts. Update your University phone number in the Telephone Work field, using the format 0141330XXXX.

If you currently don't have an extension, no action is required.

Desk phones

All desk phones will be replaced by a new headset, apart from in reception areas, where a desk phone is required in common areas or other exceptional circumstances.

  • If required, physical phones will be replaced with an updated model
  • Processes to keep and replace phones will be advertised nearer the time
  • Phones being replaced by Teams Voice will be recycled

You will keep your current extension number

Headsets

Headsets will be available for staff.

You can also use Teams certified devices like bluetooth or noise-cancelling headsets, etc, to access Teams Voice. You can follow your device manufacturer's instructions to set up.

Mobile phones

If you already have the Teams app on your mobile phone then Teams Voice will automatically be available in the app when you have access to the new system.

  • The Microsoft Teams app can be downloaded from your device’s App store
  • Log into the app with your University email address and password
