Provenance: Sir William Stirling Maxwell, 9th baronet, (1818-1878), art historian and collector:  Stirling Maxwell’s arms including the mottoes “Gang forward”, “Poco a poco”, “I am ready”, “Chi dura vince” printed in red and black on front pastedown and his engraved booklabel “Emblems Keir” mounted on rear pastedown;  Stirling Maxwell’s shelfmark “26B” in pencil on rear pastedown and another Stirling Maxwell shelfmark “ii.1.” in pencil on front pastedown.   Source unknown.
University of Glasgow:  Sir John Stirling Maxwell, 10th baronet, (1866-1956), Sir William's son, bequeathed a portion of the Stirling Maxwell library to the University of Glasgow Library in 1956 (received in 1958).
Binding: England, 19th-century red goatskin;  gold-tooled spine;  gilt-edged leaves;  Sir William Stirling Maxwell’s arms in gilt on front cover with the mottoes “Gang forward” and “I am ready” and his monogram and the same mottoes in gilt on the rear cover;  grey endpapers.   Size:  287 x 197 mm.
Leaf size: 278 x 183 mm.
Annotations: Cropped marginal annotation on a4v referring to the word “insomnio” in the text.
Decoration: Four-line initial “D” on a4r supplied in black ink;  six-line initial “N” on a4r supplied in purple and embellished with floral decoration in red and green extending into the margin.
