Provenance: Hélion Jouffroy/Heliundus Joffredus (d. 1529), French humanist, collector, nephew of Cardinal Jean Jouffroy:  inscription on 10/7v (f. 93v) “Pertinet d[omi]no helyondo Ioffredi p[re]posito Albie[nsis]”.  Jouffroy appears in a mural in the Cathédrale de Sainte-Cécile, Albi, where he is described as “Dominus Heliundus Ioffredus legum doctor prepositus Albiensis cantor et canonicus Ruthene[n]sis]” (www.flickr.com/photos/miltonmic/3873505565/, accessed May 2021);  see M. Binding: France, 18th-century citron goatskin;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  sprinkled red-edged leaves;  pink silk bookmark;  “MGIS” watermark on front flyleaf;  watermark of a bunch of grapes and date “1742” on rear flyleaf.   Size:  330 x 235 mm.
Leaf size: 324 x 224 mm.
Annotations: Frequent marginal annotations in a 16th-century hand;  occasional underlining and manicules;  occasional corrections or deletions of text;  motto “Justitia est constans et perpetua” in a 17th-century hand on 1/1r;  17th-century pen-trials in French also on 1/1r, which include the names "Feullier" and “Tullier”.
Decoration: Seven-line initial “Q” on 1/2r supplied in shades of purple on a gold square ground from which floral decoration in purple, blue, green and gold extends into the inner margin;  other initials supplied throughout in red or blue.
Imperfections: Lower margin of 1/2 excised.
