The rear cover has a centre panel decorated vertically with three columns formed from a strap-work roll, and the panel is bordered with the same floral and fleur-de-lys rolls as appear on the front cover. Four chased brass corner-pieces and a chased brass centre-piece on each board (one corner-piece now lost in the inner lower corner of the rear board); remnants of clasps, with brass catch plates on front board; rebacked in 19th/20th century and given new pastedowns and endpapers (no evidence survives of original spine covering, pastedowns or endpapers).
