Louis-Léon-Félicité, duc de Brancas de Lauraguais (1733-1824):  arms on both covers (Olivier 740);  lot 69 in Guillaume de Bure, Catalogue d’une collection de livres choisis, provenans du cabinet de M*** (Paris:  1770) - there attributed to Leonardus de Utino (see Annotations).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Brancas de Lauraguais sale through his agent, Peter Molini, for 36 livres 19 sous;  see Molini’s bill to Hunter (University of Glasgow Library, Hunter Papers, H214).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Be.7.18”.
Binding: France, 18th-century red goatskin;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner and eight larger ornaments at the corners and edges, and with the Brancas de Lauraguais arms in gilt in the centre of each cover;  gold-tooled-spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  red silk bookmark;  at the front are inserted four leaves of paper which have been pricked and ruled in double columns;  two similar leaves are inserted at the rear.   Size:  295 x 217 mm.
Leaf size: 288 x 209 mm.
Annotations: Early signatures;  quires of parts II-IV numbered “2”-“37” in an 18th-century hand in extreme inner lower corner of first leaf recto (the two groupings of ruled leaves at the front and rear being designated as “1” and “38” respectively);  18th-century title “Sermones Leon: de Utino de Sanctis. editio Primaria” on verso of fourth leaf of ruled paper at front of volume.
Decoration: Four-line initial “L” on 1/2r of part II supplied in red, blue and reserved white with purple pen-work decoration extending into the inner margin;  other initials throughout supplied in red or in red with reserved white;  paragraph marks and initial strokes in red throughout.
Imperfections: Wanting part I.
