Binding: Spain, 16th-century blind-tooled calf;  both covers identically decorated with blind fillets to form a centre panel surrounded by four frames;  the centre panel is decorated with a stamp of a helmeted head in profile and floral stamps, the inner frame is decorated with a roll containing medallion heads and foliage, the second frame is undecorated, the third frame is decorated with the same medallion heads and foliage roll, and the outer frame is undecorated;  rebacked in the 19th-century, new endpapers added (originals not preserved);  remains of two brass clasps, catch plates on rear board;  pen-work decoration on fore-edge includes two coats of arms (six bezants, and checky), foliage, and title ‘Sũma || Alchiſio || dorenſ’);  the two other edges have red-edged leaves.   Size: 279 × 208 mm.
