Binding: Scotland, 19th century dark brown sheep;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  pale blue silk bookmark;  binder’s ticket on verso of front free endpaper “Bound by Carss & Coy. Glasgow.”   Size:  208 x 147 mm.
Leaf size: 202 x 141 mm.
Annotations: Evidence of foliation in ink in an early hand e.g. 5/3 (f. 35) foliated “168” - the numbering indicating that this tract had once been bound up with another or other works - most numbers cropped or partially cropped by binder;  pencil number “4/29L” on 1/1r (probably relating to the Carss binding).
Decoration: Initials, paragraph marks, capital strokes and underlining supplied in red throughout;  occasional nota marks and manicules in red;  several chapters numbered in red in arabic numerals positioned next to the opening initial.
Imperfections: Wanting 2/1.8 (ff. 9 and 16) and the blank leaf 7/8.
