Provenance: Strassburg, Collegiate Church of New S. Peter, consecrated in 1050, taken over by the Lutherans in 1561:  inscription on A2r of first item in volume “Collegii S. Petri junioris Argentinae”.

Thomas Osborne (d. 1767), bookseller:  purchased all the Harleian printed books;  no. 684 in his Catalogus bibliothecae Harleianae, vol. 5 (London:  1745);  Osborne’s price “£2.2.0” in pencil on front flyleaf (without Osborne’s usual excision of the top right-hand corner).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  source unknown.
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “N.2.6”.
Binding: England, 18th-century gold-tooled red goatskin;  bound for Lord Harley by Christopher Chapman.  On both covers double fillets form a frame, within which are two rolls, the first is a floral roll (Nixon, ‘Harleian bindings’, pl. 13) and the second is an ornamental roll (Nixon ‘Harleian bindings’, pl. 14, Chapman roll 5).  The head and foot of the spine are decorated with a floral roll (Nixon, ‘Harleian bindings’, pl. 13), and the spine compartments are decorated with Nixon, ‘Harleian bindings’, pl. 15, Chapman no. 7, and with three other tools unrecorded by Nixon;  the turn-ins are decorated with Nixon, ‘Harleian bindings’ pl. 14, Chapman roll 2;  marbled endpapers.  Size:  314 x 220 mm.
Leaf size: 303 x 209 mm.
Annotations: Margins of quires a-c profusely annotated in brown ink in a 16th-century hand;  nota marks in red ink on h4 and h5.

Binding: England, 18th-century diced russia, gold-tooled to a two panel design;  the outer frame formed by a double fillet, the inner frame formed from a triple fillet bordered by a floral roll and with a floral ornament at each outer corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers.  Size:  308 x 215 mm.
Leaf size: 297 x 207 mm.
Annotations: Frequent washed-out marginalia in a humanist hand, mainly extracting keywords.

William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  purchased from Braidwood 12 Oct. 1865 according to Euing’s pencil acquisition note with price code “12.10.65 Braid. e/f” on a1r of first item in volume;  Euing’s inventory number “No 2227” on a1r of Festus;  confirmed in Euing's acquisitions inventory (University of Glasgow Library, MS Euing 49).
Stirling’s Public Library (now part of the Mitchell Library), Glasgow:  bookplate inscribed “A donation from William Euing Esq. 1870”.
Binding: Italy, 19th-century half calf (rebacked), decorative paper-covered boards;  marbled endpapers;  front and rear flyleaves have watermark “GCA || VETAJO”.  Size: 310 x 210 mm.
