Provenance: P. D. (15th/16th century):  in the lower margin of A2r, within a pale green and gold roundel, are what appear to be the ligature initials ‘pd’ in black and gold with a vertical gold bar placed at each side.
Cîteaux, Cistercians, BVM:  16th/17th-century inscription ‘Sctae Mariae Cistercij’ on o8r, repeated on G7v.
Gul[ielmus]. D. (fl. 1832):  inscription on o8r “Numeratae sunt paginae à me Gul. D. annos post librum ipsum stampatum cccliv”.

Binding: France, 18th-century red goatskin;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves.  Size:  304 x 210 mm.
Leaf size: 295 x 198 mm.
Annotations: Occasional marginal annotations, corrections and nota marks in a 15th/16th-century hand;  frequent hyphens added in an early hand at the end of lines to make good compositorial omissions;  on front flyleaf “collatus et integer” in an 18th/19th-century hand;  19th-century ink foliation “1”-“225” from A2-08 (see Provenance).
Decoration: The upper margin of π1r has a cross in gold, red and purple (similar to a cross barby) from which floral decoration extends into the upper and inner margins;  an eight-line initial “Q” on A2r is supplied in gold on a dull pink square ground embellished with a gold foliate pattern, from which floral decoration extends into the inner, upper and lower margins;  on the same page, in the lower margin, is a roundel (see Provenance);  numerous initials throughout supplied in alternate red and blue, generally with reserved white, occasionally with gold decoration;  a few initials supplied in both red and blue with reserved white;  paragraph marks in alternate red and blue throughout;  capital strokes in yellow;  text columns enclosed within red ink rules.
