Provenance: Richard Heber (1774-1833), book collector:  bookstamp “Bibliotheca Heberiana” on front flyleaf with Heber’s note “of great rarity”;  lot 4995 in Bibliotheca Heberiana, Pt. 1 (London:  Sotheby, 1834);  sold for £0.19.0 according to the priced British Library copy of the Heber sale catalogue (shelfmark RAR 002.092 Heb), which also records that Heber himself paid £4.4.0 for the book - the latter price confirmed by Heber’s pencil annotation “4.4.0” on front flyleaf.
John Mozley Stark (fl. 1851-1888), bookseller, stationer, printer, and publisher, Hull & London:  sold book to William Euing;  extract from a bookseller’s catalogue (probably Stark’s) advertising this copy mounted on front pastedown - item 338 priced at £1.15.0.
William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  purchased from Stark 28 Mar. 1870 according to Euing’s pencil acquisition note with price code on 1/1r “28 3 70 Stark ce/-”;  Euing’s inventory number “No 4660” in pencil on 1/1r and on verso of front free endpaper - details confirmed in Euing’s acquisitions inventory (University of Glasgow Library MS Euing 49);  page with Euing’s bibliographical references to this edition mounted onto front free endpaper.

Binding: 18th-century calf (rebacked), both covers decorated with a border of double fillets in blind;  marbled endpapers;  red-edged leaves.   Size:  286 x 212 mm.

Annotations: ‘equiſitoꝛum’ corrected to ‘exquiſitoꝛum’ on 1/1v, line 1;  traces of early signatures on 5/4 and 5/5 (ff. 44 and 45);  19th-century(?) number ‘No 3’ (altered to ‘7’) on 1/1r;  ‘1820’ in pencil on front free endpaper and ‘fine copy, rare 2/12/6 (cost the late Mr Heber 4/4/0)’ together with the number ‘No. 732 P’ and the number ‘278’;  also on same page a pencil annotation ‘T 31’ and a price code ‘lo/-’;  'R.f.' in pencil on front flyleaf;  price code ‘w-i-’ in pencil on rear flyleaf.
Decoration: Principal initials supplied in red with reserved white;  smaller initials supplied in red throughout;  manuscript guide-letters in brown ink visible throughout;  capital strokes in red on 1/1v to initial letters of each line of verse colophon and on 1/7v-2/4r (ff. 7v-14r) to initial letters of each line of the “genealogia”;  occasional paragraph marks and line-fillers supplied in red.
