William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Gaignat sale through his agent, Jean-Baptiste Dessain, for 30 livres 1 sou;  see Dessain-Hunter correspondence (University of Glasgow Library, MS Gen. 36, f. 23v).

Binding: France, 18th-century red goatskin;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  front and rear flyleaves have bunch of grapes watermark.   Size:  415 x 300 mm.
Leaf size: 404 x 288 mm.
Annotations: Profusely annotated in a 15th/16th-century hand;  the same hand has supplied chapter titles at top right-hand corner of rectos;  occasional manicules and nota marks;  foliated in a different early hand “1”-“162”;  very occasional evidence of  early manuscript signatures e.g. “g5”.
Decoration: On 1/1r a twelve-line initial “B” is supplied in red and blue with reserved white;  a similar nine-line initial “P” on 14/1r (f. 119r);  other initials throughout supplied in red or blue;  occasional manuscript guide-letters in brown ink;  paragraph marks in red or blue throughout.
Imperfections: None.
