The pseudo-Bonaventuran Meditationes vitae Christi is the work of a Franciscan of San Gimignano in Tuscany, in all probability Johannes de Caulibus -- see BMC XI 172.

Provenance: William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  source unknown;  an early Euing inventory number “3” in pencil on verso of front free endpaper, together with his engraved armorial book-plate.
University of Glasgow:  presented by Euing in 1872 according to University Library bookplate on front pastedown.
Binding: 19th-century diced brown calf, rebacked;  covers decorated with a double gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves.   Size:  308 x 224 mm.
Leaf size: 297 x 214 mm.
Annotations: Erased 16th/17th-century ownership inscription on 1/2r beginning “Coll ...”;  excerpts copied from Santander, Dictionnaire bibliographique choisi du quinzième siècle, II, p. 235 and Dibdin, Bibliotheca Spenceriana, III, p. 194, pasted onto front endpapers.
Decoration: Initials supplied throughout in red, some with reserved white, often with pen-flourishing;  capital strokes and paragraph marks supplied in red throughout;  chapter headings and colophon underlined in red.
Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaf 1/1 (stub visible).
