John Mozley Stark (fl. 1851-1888), bookseller, stationer, printer, and publisher, Hull & London:  sold book to William Euing.
William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  purchased from Stark 20 Jan. 1855 according to Euing’s pencil acquisition note with price code “20-1-55 dg/- Stark” on front pastedown;  an early Euing inventory number “143” in pencil on front pastedown.
University of Glasgow:  presented by Euing in 1872 according to one of two University Library bookplates on front pastedown.
Binding: Germany, 16th-century blind-tooled pigskin over bevelled wooden boards;  covers decorated with intersecting triple fillets to form a centre panel and surrounding frame;  the centre panel is divided by triple fillets into lozenge and triangular-shaped compartments, each decorated with separate rosette stamps;  spine undecorated (but with a title label added in the 19th/20th century);  remains of two clasps;  brass catch plates on front board;  endpapers and flyleaves (not contemporary) have a tête de boeuf watermark surmounted by a five-petalled flower on a stem.   Size: 317 × 222 mm..

Annotations: Nota marks and underlining on o2 and on y9r;  quires numbered ‘1-34’ in a 16th-century hand in lower inner corner of first recto;  various 19th-century inscriptions on front pastedown including bibliographical references in a German hand in pencil, number ‘81’ in ink (lightly scored through in pencil), and a price in pencil ‘2/12/6’ beneath which are unread (?)initials.
Decoration: Initials supplied throughout in red or red and reserved white, often with marginal flourishes;  capital strokes, paragraph marks, and underlining in red throughout.
Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaves a1 and H8.
