Provenance: William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  Euing’s pencil acquisition date “7 5 51”, early inventory number “No. 25”, and shelfmark “V-y-8”, all in pencil on front pastedown;  source unknown.

Binding: 17th-century blind-tooled calf;  covers decorated with a large stepped centre-piece and a floral roll border;  rebacked in 19th century and given new pastedowns (originals not preserved).  Size:  303 x 220 mm.
Leaf size: 290 x 208 mm.
Annotations: Signature oo1, wrongly signed “mm”, corrected in pen-and-ink to “oo”.
Decoration: Thirteen-line calligraphic initial “F” supplied in red on a2r;  eight-line initial “I” on a5v supplied in red and blue with reserved white;  in quires a-o smaller initials are supplied in red, often with reserved white and often with marginal flourishes, along with intermittent capital strokes and paragraph marks in red;  the remainder of the book is undecorated, except for leaves u3v- u7r, which have initials, paragraph marks and capital strokes supplied in red.
