Binding: France, 18th-century calf;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spines;  red leather title labels;  marbled endpapers;  red-edged leaves;  green silk bookmarks;  flyleaves have bunch of grapes watermark and “ROMANET || LIMOSIN || FIN” watermark.   Size:  400 x 285 mm.
Leaf size: 385 x 277 mm.
Annotations: Marginal annotations (mostly cropped) in 16th and 17th-century hands in parts I, II and IV.
Decoration: On a4r of part I an eleven-line initial “F” is supplied in blue with scroll-work added in white and is set on a square crimson ground with foliate decoration added in dull gold.  Similarly decorated initials on Aa3r of part II, on A1r of part III, and on AA2r of part IV.  Other initials in all four parts supplied in plain red or blue, or occasionally in red and blue with reserved white;  paragraph marks throughout supplied in red or blue.
Imperfections: Part I:  wanting the blank leaves a1 and zz10.  Part II:  wanting the blank leaves Aa1-2, Ff8, Nnn6, Qqq8-10.  Part III:  wanting the blank leaf NN8.  Part IV:  wanting the blank leaves AA1, QQQ6, RRR6-8.
