Provenance: Anthony Askew (1722-1774), physician and classical scholar:  Askew sale, 13 Feb. 1775 onwards;  lot 817 in Bibliotheca Askeviana … (London:  Baker & Leigh, 1775).
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter for £28.7.0 at the Askew sale according to the annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in University of Glasgow Library (shelfmark Mu36-c.8).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest, 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Be.1.15”.
Binding: England, 18th-century gold-tooled blue goatskin;  on both covers triple fillets form a frame, within which is a border made-up of separate tools;  both covers are decorated with a lozenge-shaped centre-piece made-up of separate tools;  gilt-edged leaves;  marbled endpapers;  green silk bookmark.  Size: 232 x 157 mm.
Leaf size: 220 x 144 mm.
Annotations: None.
Decoration: On A1v is a one-line initial “A” in gold on a square blue ground decorated with white dots and bordered in black, with a floral panel in blue, pink, green and gold, bordered in black, in the outer margin;  on A2r is a four-line initial “T” in gold with a floral background and a similar floral panel in blue, pink, green and gold, bordered in gold, in the inner margin;  on K2v is a four-line initial “O” in gold on a square crimson ground with gold scroll work, the area enclosed by the initial decorated with a purple iris on a blue ground, with illuminated floral decoration extending into the outer margin;  on X2r is a four-line initial “K” in crimson and gold on a square blue ground decorated with black and white dots and bordered with gold, with illuminated floral decoration extending into the inner margin;  on EE8r is a four-line initial “A” in gold on a square blue ground with black and white dots and bordered with gold, with illuminated floral decoration extending into the inner margin;  on ΘΘ4r is a four-line initial “H” in gold on a on a square crimson ground decorated with gold scroll work and bordered with gold, the spaces above and below the bar of the letter “H” filled in with blue and decorated with black and white dots, with illuminated floral decoration extending into the inner margin.
Imperfections: Wanting the final gathering [*], containing the dedication to Piero de' Medici and the colophon - possibly suppressed (see BMC).
