Provenance: Magister Dominus Bartholomeus (16th century):  inscription on k1v “m[agister] d[ominus] Barth[olom]eus(?) [...] possidet” (together with an unread annotation of two words).
Sir William Stirling Maxwell, 9th baronet, (1818-1878), art historian and collector:  engraved armorial bookplate in black with engraved signature “William Stirling Maxwell” and mottoes “Gang forward” and “I am ready” on front pastedown;  his engraved booklabel “Emblems Keir” in red on rear pastedown;  Stirling Maxwell’s shelfmark in pencil “23B” on rear pastedown, other Stirling Maxwell shelfmarks “K.1” and “39.1” in pencil on front pastedown;  Stirling Maxwell’s source unknown.
University of Glasgow:  Sir John Stirling Maxwell, 10th baronet, (1866-1956), Sir William's son, bequeathed a portion of the Stirling Maxwell library to the University of Glasgow Library in 1956 (received in 1958).
Binding: Italy, 18th-century parchment;  gold-tooled spine;  sprinkled blue-edged leaves;  Stirling Maxwell’s armorial stamp in black with motto “Gang forward” added to front cover and his monogram stamp “WSM” in black added to rear cover.   Size:  220 x 161 mm.
Leaf size: 215 x 156 mm.
Annotations: Very occasional early annotations in Latin;  names of months frequently added in Italian to tables and zodiac signs in more than one 17th/18th-century hand;  Arabic numerals 1 to 8 added on some leaves in quires a-e corresponding to the numbering used in the printed running headline on recto leaves of the same section;  imprint date “1494” in an early hand on D10v and another date “1563” in a later hand;  number or date “1756” on a2r;  numerical calculations in an early hand on [*4r];  19th-century price in pencil on front free endpaper “15/-”;  numbers “15” and “6” on rear pastedown.
Decoration: None.
Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaves D11-12.
