Introduction to Management Programme

The programme is aimed at new managers in operational, commercial, and technical job families.  The participants will be those who have been managing for a while but have had no formal or recent training, or those who would like to refresh their management skills.

The programme comprises of:

  • the role of the manager 
  • effective teams
  • workload and priority management
  • managing performance
  • meaningful conversations

Participants will also have the opportunity to build relationships with managers across different areas of the university.

The components of the programme are:

  • pre-course reading and/or online learning for each workshop
  • reflective activity following each workshop
  • opportunities to practise techniques in a safe, confidential environment

Typically during the sessions, the facilitators will signpost other optional reading, courses, and materials that are available to those interested.

Colleagues who are interested in participating in this programme should have an initial discussion with their line manager and indicate their interest in coordination with their local People and OD (Human Resources) teams.
