Guidance for Online Support

How to Prepare for My Session?

  • Leave an extra 15 minutes before the session to give yourself some time to get Microsoft Teams set-up and prepared - this can help to reduce stress and anxiety
  • Make sure you are somewhere private where you won’t be overheard and are able to talk openly
  • Check your internet connection, making sure this is stable enough for the call
  • Stay focused – it might help to have paper and pen available
  • Sit in a comfortable chair, making sure your face is visible on the camera
  • Pour yourself a glass of water or a cup of tea/coffee before the session, but avoid consuming recreational drugs or alcohol before or during the session

It’s important to log into Microsoft Teams via your University email address so you can receive the call.  For support with setting up and using Microsoft Teams please see this link: Help With MS Teams

Please make sure that you have your Teams account (Settings, under notifications and calls menus) and your device (Settings, Notifications menu) set to 'allow notifications' from Teams.

What Can I Expect to Happen on the Day?

  • The practitioner will call you on the day and time arranged
  • They will call from a secure environment, free of being overheard and overlooked
  • The session will be for approximately 50 minutes
  • The practitioner will discuss arrangements should the internet connection fail at any time.

N.B. If the practitioner feels that you are not in a suitably private / confidential space, or if they have any other concerns about proceeding with the session, they will discuss this with you and the session will need to be rescheduled.

If you have not received a call, please ensure the 'do not disturb' on Teams is not switched on. If you are online and don't receive a call on Teams, please telephone 0141 330 4528.

Due to high standards of data security and the nature of online support, the University only promotes the use of Microsoft Teams for this purpose.
