Countdown to your wedding Ceremony
1. Decide on the type of ceremony i.e. religious, civil or humanist.
2. Confirm the services of your Minister/ Priest, Registrar or Celebrant.
3. Check the legal requirements for your type of wedding ceremony including any residency requirement and the documents that will be required (birth certificate, decree absolute certificate etc).
4. Set a provisional date for your wedding.
5. Provisionally book venue for reception.
6. Confirm provisional bookings when all venues confirm availability for the same date.
7. Select and book your photographer and videographer.
8. Book transport to and from the ceremony and reception for the bridal party.
9. Book your piper and any other daytime musicians.

9 - 6 months to go
- Decide on the style of flowers you want and the amount of arrangements required to include bouquets, button-holes, venue and ceremony displays, table centres and gifts for mums.
- Visit florists for quotes and discuss your requirements. Book preferred florist.
3 months to go
- Submit Marriage Notice Forms with appropriate documents to the General Registrars Office in Glasgow. See www.gro-scotland.gov.uk for more information.
- Start to think about the music for your wedding ceremony
- Make sure you obtain your minister or registrar's final approval for your order of service before going to print!
2 months to go
- Send out thank you letters as gifts arrive.
- Decide upon the music for your wedding ceremony and, if appropriate, contact your organist for advice.
- Ensure that all of the final balance payments for venues and other services are paid for.
- Book a rehearsal for the ceremony at the Chapel.
1 - 2 weeks to go
- Rehearsal at the Chapel for the ceremony.
- Make sure your order of service sheets, menus, place cards and thank-you cards have been delivered.
- Pick up the Marriage Schedule from the Registrar’s office.
On the day
- Get up in plenty of time.
- Try to stick to your timetable.
- Be sure to eat breakfast.
- Surround yourself with people you are comfortable with.
- Prepare yourself in plenty of time so you do not feel rushed.
- If you are going to a salon to have your hair done then do not forget to take along your headdress, veil or flowers.
- Above all, relax, enjoy and have fun!
After your wedding
- Notify bank, doctor etc. of any changes of name and address.
- Send out final thank you letters for gifts.
- Enjoy your honeymoon and married life!
