Church Street

The University of Glasgow is committed to further enhancing the student experience through the built environment on Church Street by delivering high-quality, close-to-campus accommodation that enriches their overall university experience.

Following the approach of recent Campus Development, the University is actively involving students, colleagues, and the local community throughout the project. These developments are expected to support local businesses, enhance safety by realising a 24/7 campus vision, and integrate with the existing architectural character. The design intent is to honour the historical tenements while creating welcoming public and green spaces, as well as improving the urban realm for the broader community.

Project details

Gross Area: 15,422sqm

Beds: 460 in various configuration (70:30 Cluster to Studio, including  fully accessible rooms)

Commercial Floor Space: 408sqm

Opening: Academic session 2028/29

Our developments on Church Street will provide student accommdation with easy access to academic and extracurricular facilities, reducing commuting time and expense. This will improve their work-study-life balance, affordability, and strengthen the on-campus community and connections. Ultimately, this development aims to ensure that students fully benefit from campus facilities and that the West End of Glasgow remains a vibrant and thriving community beyond core lecture hours.

The designs for these projects will focus on promoting health and wellbeing, while aligning with the University’s sustainability commitments outlined in the Glasgow Green strategy, by aiming to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
