Culture of Care Day

A photo of a lecture hall filled with people, a man in the foreground watches with a book and pen next to himCulture of Care Day is our annual event celebrating the people, practices, and ideas that support excellent animal welfare and a positive research environment across the university. The day is an inclusive opportunity for technicians, researchers, veterinarians, support staff, and students to come together.

Each year, the programme features a mix of invited talks, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions covering a wide range of topics: from advances in Replacement and Refinement, to new welfare assessment tools, fieldwork best practice, staff wellbeing, and emerging developments in animal care. Attendees are also warmly encouraged to present posters on any topic related to the culture of care, helping to showcase local innovations, experiences, and good practice.

Alongside talks and posters, exhibitor stands and equipment demonstrations provide opportunities to explore new methods and technologies that can enhance both science and welfare. The day also includes chances to relax and connect, with activities such as quizzes, wellbeing sessions, and informal social events.

Whether you join to learn, share your work, or meet colleagues from across the university, Culture of Care Day is designed to inspire practical improvements and strengthen our shared commitment to a compassionate, supportive research environment.
