Animal Welfare Governance at the University
The Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body (AWERB) plays a central role in supporting high standards of animal welfare and ethical practice across the university. It provides local review, guidance and oversight for all work carried out under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, helping ensure that research is well-designed, justified and conducted with care.
The Culture of Care Committee is an AWERB subgroup, created to focus specifically on best practice in the day-to-day care and use of animals, and to promote a positive, supportive working environment for staff and students.
