Please join us for an all staff workshop and research event available to all staff and research students within SPS and colleagues from the wider university community. Organised by the Sociology subject group on behalf of the School of Social and Political Sciences, Social and Political Science at Two Degrees is part of the continuing Future Directions series run in Sociology, seeking to foster an active research environment and engagement with pertinent Sociological and Cultural issues.
For the first time last year the earth averaged 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial baseline across a whole year for the first time ever. As well as being a landmark date in human history, it also showed that we are well on target for a world of two degree warming and the severe societal and environmental impacts that entails.
Bringing together colleagues from across Social and Political Sciences, these two days are a chance to get up to speed on the science of climate change and to consider how social scientists are responding. Open sessions in Climate and Media, Energy, Climate and the City, and Climate and Global Health as well as a special session on teaching climate will offer all colleagues and PGRs the chance to learn from one another, network, and consider avenues for research responses.
We are also delighted that Cambridge Chair of Media, Culture and Environment Prof. Jennifer Gabrys will be providing a keynote lecture to round off the event. We hope to see as many of you as possible there.
