Dumfries 20th Anniversary

We’re celebrating 20 years since the University first opened its doors to students on the Crichton campus in Dumfries.

We began in 1999 with just a handful of staff, 87 pioneering students and a small suite of liberal arts programmes. Today, our vision to create a world-class, research-intensive university environment in niche areas matched to our location has become a reality. More than 40 academic staff, who live and work in the region, now deliver the full spectrum of higher education opportunities to more than 400 students from 25 nations across the globe.

To mark this milestone we presented six honorary degrees in July, including to Outlander actor Sam Heughan (pictured above with then Head of the College of Social Sciences Professor Anne Anderson) in recognition of his artistic success and his charitable work.
