Introducing 'Are You Prepared?'
A New Educational Game from the National Centre for Resilience
The National Centre for Resilience (NCR) is excited to introduce ‘Are You Prepared?’, an interactive educational game designed to engage children and communities in Scotland in conversations about natural hazards. This innovative tool fosters awareness and encourages practical learning on how to prepare for, stay safe during, and recover from hazardous weather events.
Engaging Learning Through Play
Designed for children aged 6-12 years, ‘Are You Prepared?’ transforms essential safety knowledge into a fun, engaging experience. The game is not only ideal for classroom settings but also perfect for families and community groups, helping young learners understand the importance of resilience in an accessible and enjoyable way.
Nationwide Rollout in 2024
To ensure widespread access, a game pack has been distributed to every state primary school across Scotland during winter 24/25. This initiative supports educators in delivering key messages about natural hazard preparedness, making resilience education more interactive and impactful.
Developed with Expert Insights
Grounded in evidence-based research from NCR, ‘Are You Prepared?’ has been developed in collaboration with resilience professionals, emergency responders, and educational experts. Key contributions include feedback from:
- NCR Steering Group partner organisations

- Lecturers and students in Primary Education and Environmental Risk Management at the University of Glasgow, School of Social and Environmental Sustainability

The game has been play-tested at a series of engagement events with primary school children, teachers and families, ensuring that real-world feedback from end users shaped its design. Their insights have been invaluable in refining the gameplay, enhancing engagement, and making the learning experience as effective as possible.
