An Injury to All: The Unmaking of the British Working Class is a compelling new social history of Britain since 1945 which is published by Verso on 27th October 2026. It explains what happened to Britain’s formally politically, economically and culturally powerful working class.

Drawing on vivid first-hand accounts, An Injury to All traces the transformation of a class which organised in mines, factories and shipyards into one scattered across call centres and gig economy apps through the words of those who experienced it. This is the story of council estates sold off, unions broken, mill towns hollowed out, and a sense of solidarity ground down by decades of insecurity. Class has roared back into political debate, posing the essential question: who now speaks for labour?
