This seminar will explore the conceptual, practical, and governance foundations of Community Led Tourism in Scotland.

Community-led tourism (CLT) is re-emerging as a salient approach to ‘just’ tourism development. Rising tourism numbers and community exclusion from growth-centred economic policies are driving attention to the potential of CLT for redistributing resources and community rights. Within CLT, Scotland is a unique context where a robust landscape of community managed and owned initiatives has developed in parallel to CLT as a strategic priority in national policy. Thus, Scotland offers significant practical and conceptual insight for a wide range of actors working to develop CLT.

This seminar will explore the conceptual, practical and governance foundations of CLT in Scotland. The seminar will add critical discussion to the renewed attention on CLT and help unpack its potential as a tool for ‘just’ community development.
