Anna Doyle & Matthew Barr:  

Anna is Programme Manager for the Graduate Apprenticeship in Software Engineering and Festival Manage for Ada Scotland. Matt is head of the School's recently established Education and Practice (EAP) section, and Festival Director.

"Introduction to the Ada Scotland Festival"

The Ada Scotland Festival (ada.scot) returns this October, with a programme of events to inspire more women and girls to study Computing Science: https://ada.scot/events/. 

Supported by Barclays, the Festival features a host of events in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen, as well as online events and activities, aimed at students, teachers, pupils, and early career women in tech. These range from networking events and panel sessions to hackathons and live school assemblies, reaching hundreds of women and girls across Scotland. 

The Festival runs 2-13 Oct with >100 students and teachers from west Scotland attending a launch event at the Glasgow Barclays Campus. The launch event will offer presentations, interactive and educational games and campus tours, including the X and Eagle Labs.

Marzia Deodato:   

Marzia Deodato is a Software Developer at Barclays and graduated from the School of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. She is passionate about most innovative technologies and bringing awareness to local and wider communities. This has seen her lead Ted Talk discussions on topics such as Quantum Computing and to start on her own a business idea on the Metaverse, which was awarded Top 6 in the Colorintech hackathon. Marzia is an organiser and speaker at Barclays Women in Technology Scotland. As a Google's Women Techmakers Ambassador, she organised and presented at Women Techmakers Scotland conference on programming languages and spoken languages. 

She was invited to the Google I/O extended conference in Amsterdam representing GDG Glasgow. Marzia introduced the IAmRemarkable workshop to Barclays, a global initiative to empower minorities in self-promotion. She was awarded “Role Model” by the non-profit organisation Next Tech Girls for her involvement in inspiring young girls and talking on technology. Finally, Marzia was selected to attend the European Forum Alpbach in Austria- a high level conference with the best young talent across the world to participate in seminars, workshops, hackathon and discussions with EU leaders, CEOs and politicians.

The Glasgow Women in Computing Science group (GWiCS) is open to all staff and students from Glasgow Universities. We hold monthly meet ups, talks and information sessions as well as providing a supportive network for new PhD students and early career researchers.
