BRBQ - A Night of Brazilian Jazz at Garscube

James Brady: Trumpet /Flugelhorn/ Percussion

Ed Rice: Piano

Mario Caribé: Bass

Stu Brown: Drums

BRBQ unites three distinctive voices in Scottish jazz, James Brady (trumpet/flugelhorn), Mario Caribé (bass) and Stu Brown (drums/percussion), with one of the UK’s leading interpreters of Bossa Nova and Brazilian jazz, Ed Rice (piano).

Brazilian born Caribé lectures in jazz at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, whilst prolific performer Stu Brown spent 3 weeks on a British Council funded residency in Brazil followed by a UK tour with cultural exchange project Orquestra Scotland Brasil. Rice is currently working on a PhD in interpreting bossa nova from the perspective of a jazz pianist, whilst new to Scotland Brady has been studying and playing the music of Brazil for over 10 years. Together, they bring a freshness and authenticity to playing the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, João Bosco and other giants of Brazilian jazz, combining flowing melody, rhythmic grace and open, breathing improvisation. Each artist is internationally in demand in their own right as performers and composers.

The event

This will be a wonderfully sunny, informal jazz event, taking place from 6pm - 8pm including an interval. It aims to feel like a jazz bar, with the programme will be announced during the performance and lots of chat with the artists. It will be set in the corner of the Mary Stewart Building, with access to toilets and refreshments.

Who can come?

If you would like to come, you need to be studying, working or regularly accessing the Garscube Campus. This event is not suitable for children but you can bring a group of family or friends as long as one of you is affiliated with the Garscube Campus. The BOOKING LINK will be LIVE SOON!

Why are we coming to Garscube?

Music in the University is just that - for everyone at the University. We have had feedback from staff, students and communities calling for some musical events outside of our Hillhead Campus. Thanks to the Chancellors Fund and the Ferguson Bequest, Music in the University is able to pilot some music events at our Garscube Campus this semester. This is the first in several events for students, staff and wider community at Garscube. Big thanks to the events and facilities teams at Garscube for hosting this Music in the University event.
