What’s on offer?

The event will be online and be approximately 5 to 10 minutes for young people to participate.

We have created an online interactive map that will allow young people to search for their neighbourhoods and see what facilities and amenities they currently have access to within a 10-minute walk of their postcode. The online interactive map will be suitable for use on tablets and smart phones.

Once young people have watched the video and searched for their home location, they will be asked to give feedback on how they would rate the quality of their home neighbourhood. Tell us if there are other destinations they require in their local area and how it can help with their daily needs. This will be based around the Scottish Government’s Place Standard for young people.

What’s it about?

If you walked or wheeled in any direction for 10 minutes from where you live or go to school, what would you like to find in your area?

The Scottish Government have committed to apply the concept of the 20-minute neighbourhood across the country. The 20-minute neighbourhood aims to provide access to destinations that people require for their daily needs within a 10-minute commute from their home. These include education, recreational, financial, social, and recreational destinations.

We have created an online interactive map for the whole of Scotland that provides the number of key destinations each postcode has access to within 10-minutes of their home. Our activity will allow participants to search for their address (or a public space near to where they live) using an interactive map, the map will show them whether they live within a 20-minute neighbourhood and the destinations they have within a 10-minute walk or wheel of their home. We will then ask young people to assess the quality of these destinations and what other destinations they would like within a 10-minute walk or wheel of their home to meet their daily needs.
