It’s Doors Open Weekend at the ARC! Join us for a range of talks, events and activities for all ages.  From behind-the-scenes tours of areas not normally open to the public to an outdoor ceilidh, help us bring this beautiful new building to life. All events are FREE! 

There will be food trucks on site for pizzas and refreshments.

  • The ARC: Past, Present & Future - what is the ARC, why was it designed this way, and what’s in it for me? Join an architect, poet and researchers in conversation at ‘The ARC: Past, Present & Future’.  Explore the history of the site and memories of the Western Infirmary; the design and architecture of the new building; and cutting-edge research happening in the building. Includes a special performance of ‘arc’ a poem commissioned to celebrate the opening of this new building.
  • Co-creating Research: Music & Spoken Word Workshop - join poet, musician and UNESCO artist-in-residence Tawona Sitholé for a family friendly music and spoken word workshop!
  • Glowing Science
  • QUANTIC
  • ARCeilidh - Join us for a jig in the square outside the ARC for our outdoor ceilidh! With live Scottish, folk and contemporary music by local performers, bands and students. All ages welcome.

  • Scientists at Work: Tour - see Scientists at Work on these interactive tours. Come along and see our research in action! You’ll see some of our experiments in our labs and our researchers will explain the ground-breaking work they are doing. We hope to excite our next generation of scientists. No need to book, just drop-in on the day.

  • Have You Heard? - in today’s era of fake news it can be difficult to figure out what’s real, and what’s not. This award-winning workshop will explore science headlines and their significance, recount the journey of a research project and a breakdown on how to interpret a science story in the news. Age 14+.

  • Tracing Glasgow’s Imperial Past in Kelvingrove Park: Critical Heritage Walk
  • Museums, Empire and Difficult Heritage at Kelvingrove: Critical Heritage Walk
  • Gillebride MacMillan & Choral Participation - join actor and musician Gillebride MacMilian (as seen on Outlander) and Katy Lavinia Cooper (UofG Choir Director) for a Gaelic singing workshop! Sing songs from Gilebride’s forthcoming album, culminating in a performance. Open to all - no need to read music or speak Gaelic!
