Course Aims

This course aims 

■ to establish a solid understanding of the basic theory of survey sampling, with a focus on simple, stratified and probability sampling; and

■ to train students in deriving estimates and their standard errors for different sampling schemes.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the course students will be able to:

■ employ simple, stratified and probability sampling;

■ derive the estimators and associated standard errors of population in the different sampling strategies;

■ perform correct estimation by the ratio principle;

■ explain the difference between observational and experimental studies.
