Assessment

1 reflective journal of 5,000 words 80%

1 oral presentation (individual) 10%

Using a proforma schedule, the oral presentation will be evaluated by the course co-ordinator and self-evaluated by the student. A mark will be agreed between staff and student, however, the co-ordinator will retain the right to confirm the final mark.

The aims of the course are:

 

■ To combine academic coursework and practical experience in a welfare agency;

■ To link theory with practice through critical reflection;

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students should be able to:

■ Outline and critically evaluate the aims and service of welfare agency;

■ Critically evaluate their role as a volunteer in a welfare agency;

■ Critically assess the impact of their participation in community service on recipients of service;

■ Critically evaluate their own educational and personal development;

■ Demonstrate personal development of employability skills;
