Short Description
In this course students will be supported to develop critical thinking and practical skills in undertaking qualitative research from the point of planning and design, through to analysis and writing up. This course assumes existing foundational knowledge of basic qualitative research methods.

Course Aims
This course aims to support the advancement of knowledge and skills in qualitative research, guiding students through key theoretical perspectives that inform a range of methodological and analytical approaches. The course will develop students' ethical and reflexive skills while providing practical opportunities to critically explore how computer assisted analysis and internet mediated technologies can facilitate qualitative research.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Describe how epistemology influences researchers' decisions about data collection and interpretation
2. Design a qualitative research protocol that links a clear research question to a justified methodology which considers data collection and analysis.
3. Recognise and implement opportunities to engage in ethical and reflexive practice
4. Identify and gain first impressions of using computer assisted tools to facilitate access and analysis of qualitative data
5. Improve written and analytical skills in reporting qualitative research, guided by professional standards
