Assessment
Summative assessment will be carried out asynchronously online via Moodle. This information will be made accessible to those with protected characteristics through the provision of, where necessary, audio description and subtitles.
Course Aims
The aim of this course is to ensure that students undertaking mandatory residence abroad as part of their modern languages degree are as well placed as possible to benefit from that experience. The course will achieve this by familiarising students with the options for studying and working available to them while abroad, the applications they will need to submit before travelling, and the challenges and benefits of living outside of the UK. As well as sharing important information and pointing to the institutional and peer-to-peer resources available to them, it will make students more independent, adaptable and confident.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Identify the options available to them in year abroad study in their programme(s) and the processes for applying to them;
■ Recognise the systems of support available to them during year abroad study and the ways in which they can be accessed
■ Summarise the potential challenges faced by students on year abroad study.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
