Short Description

This course aims to examine relevant research, as well as current policies and practices, being adopted by organisations to manage diversity and inclusion. It aims to introduce current research on the topic, give an overview of anti-discrimination legislation, and examine the nature and effectiveness of organisational policies and practices related to diversity and inclusion. 

Timetable

The course applies a blended learning design with an indicative balance of 50% on campus, 50% online. It is normally timetabled to run over four weeks in Semester 1.

Assessment

Students will be required to write an essay of 3,000 words. (All ILOs).

Course Aims

This course aims:

 

1. To examine relevant research, as well as current policies and practices being adopted by organizations to manage diversity and inclusion. 

2. To raise awareness of the law on diversity, current research on the topic and discuss the potential barriers hampering equality of opportunity for both men and women. 

3. To examine current good strategies and practices related to the management of diversity and potential outcomes for organizations.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

1. Evaluate and critically apply key theories of managing organisational diversity and inclusion to practice.

2. Demonstrate knowledge of current law and how it informs organisational policy and practice.

3. Analyse how organisational structures and practices shape diversity and inclusion.

4. Argue what 'good practice' looks like in different contexts.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
