Short Description
This course is aimed at the analysis and examination of the modern phenomena of the knowledge economy. It examines the major changes in business for a digitally enabled enterprise and the changes and effects of new models of business. It will explore how new business models impact within the wider business environment and must continually evolve in light of technological and digital advances.
This course will support the development of graduate attribute in the areas of investigation skills, independent and critical thinkers and gain confidence in defending their ideas in dialogue with peers.
Timetable
This course will be taught through synchronous learning activities that include 5 x 2 hour lectures and 4 x 2 hour tutorials.

Course Aims
This course focuses on analysing the modern phenomena of the knowledge economy. Students will
■ Explore new business models emerging in the digital age, the significance of knowledge (IP) as a primary value for enterprises, and the effects of a rapidly changing business environment on knowledge-based organizations.
■ Students will also examine the distinctions between knowledge-based enterprises and traditional businesses, delve into the entrepreneurial leadership necessary for these organizations,
■ Students will assess strategic options and associated risks in planning.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Evaluate the options for new models of doing business in a digital based business environment
2. Analyse critically the nature of the knowledge economy and knowledge as a sustainable competitive advantage
3. Critically evaluate the effect of e-business upon small and medium-sized enterprise development
4. Analyse and create an e-business model of an enterprise and recognise concepts/competencies/connections/networks necessary for success in a knowledge economy.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
