Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? Not applicable for Honours courses

Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. Where, exceptionally, reassessment on Honours courses is required to satisfy professional/accreditation requirements, only the overall course grade achieved at the first attempt will contribute to the Honours classification. For non-Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below.

Course Aims

This course aims to challenge students to apply the business knowledge they have been developing in previous courses in a socially and environmentally responsible way through experiential learning and learning by doing. Students will work in groups on identifying and developing a sustainability project. This course, therefore, aims to bridge the big picture perspective of the grand challenges facing society in the 21st century and the local perspective of what individuals, businesses, governments and supra-national organisations can do to navigate through them.

This course provides students with an overview of all 17 SDGs and demonstrates the interconnections and trade-offs between selected SDGs.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Identify and describe unstructured, and complex problems related to sustainability at multiple levels (individual, organizational, industry, nation state, and global).

2. Develop a plan outlining the steps that will be undertaken to achieve a better understanding of the identified problem.

3. Carry out a critical analysis based on independent research including the assembly of a strong evidence base from various credible sources.

4. Evaluate the results of the analysis by comparing and contrasting alternative options.

5. Work individually and collaboratively to create verbal, written and visual artefacts that document the different stages of the problem-solving process in consistent, clear and persuasive ways.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment. Further requirements may include monitored attendance at classes and examinations. All such requirements shall be specified by the Department concerned and given to students in writing at the beginning of the course. Normally no grade or credits shall be awarded to a candidate who has not met these requirements.
