This course, which enables students to reach the A2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, is for students who have completed the International Mobility 2 course or have equivalent knowledge of the language. The four fundamental skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, continue to be developed. Additional grammar points and vocabulary are introduced and students continue to expand their awareness of Hispanic cultures

A grade of D3 or above in LANGCTR1048 or MFL1076 or LANGCTR1054 or MFL1077, or at the discretion of the Programme Director

Examination (1-hour duration) - 60%
Oral Exam (5 minutes) - 20%
Two x assessed language exercise - 10% each

Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? No
Reassessments are normally available for all courses, except those which contribute to the Honours classification. For non-Honours courses, students are offered reassessment in all or any of the components of assessment if the satisfactory (threshold) grade for the overall course is not achieved at the first attempt. This is normally grade D3 for undergraduate students and grade C3 for postgraduate students. Exceptionally it may not be possible to offer reassessment of some coursework items, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. Any such exceptions for this course are described below.
Oral assessments are not available for reassessment.
This course will provide the opportunity to:
■ build on students' foundation in spoken and written Spanish;
■ widen students' knowledge of Spanish grammar and linguistic structures, including perfect, imperfect, future and conditional tenses;
■ familiarise students with further aspects of Hispanic culture and society
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ understand relatively short and straightforward oral and written materials on various topics or subjects;
■ read and write Spanish texts on a variety of topics, including those which use the perfect, imperfect, future and conditional tenses;
■ handle relatively short and simple social exchanges;
■ describe or exchange information on topics such as family, other people, living conditions, leisure activities, educational and working background;
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
