Short Description

This course equips students with the theoretical and conceptual knowledge needed to address behavioural/emotional/cognitive problems and challenges commonly encountered across applied practice settings including those where the interaction with the end users of psychology services is achieved via digital tools and platforms. Learning about key theoretical and procedural skills will be consolidated via exposure to applied practice in settings where clinical psychologists commonly work.

Timetable

This course is made up of a mix of lectures and practical skills and practitioner observation sessions workshops in semester 2.

This course is only open to those registered on the PhD in Clinical Psychology Science.

1. Written assignment (3000 words) (ILO 1)

Course Aims

This course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills relevant to using psychological theory and tools to address real world problems affecting human behaviour, emotional functioning, academic/occupational performance, or educational attainment. Concrete examples from applied psychology practice will be used to convey the key learning principles so that course completers can apply the same kinds of strategies to problems they will likely face in applied settings.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will:

1. Be able to demonstrate the use of contemporary psychological theory to address applied problems across healthcare and/or educational contexts

2. Be able to competently select and administer at least two different types of structured psychological assessment techniques used in applied practice and/or research settings

3. Be able to score, document, and interpret data from at least two different types of psychometric assessment strategies used in applied practice settings

4. Be able to apply current best practice approaches to using digital tools deliver psychological services
