This course will only be offered to students as one of the exit award options from the PhD in Clinical Psychology Science.

Students will have the option to conduct a systematic review or small-scale empirical study. Both of these options build on submitted coursework (systematic review proposal submitted as part of the Research Methods course or an empirical study proposed as part of the research proposal in the Applied Research course). They will already have a supervisor assigned as part of their enrolment in the PhD in Clinical Psychology Science, who will supervise their MSc dissertation in this instance.

Students complete a research dissertation of up to 6,000 words (or up to 8,000 words for qualitative projects or systematic reviews) on a topic related to clinical psychology science. (70%)

A poster presentation in association with an oral presentation "pitch" of their dissertation. (30%)

This course aims to allow students an opportunity to conduct a piece of research building on their previous coursework. They will have the opportunity address their identified research question/s using systematic review or empirical methodology. The dissertation will allow the students to apply their research skills, work under supervision, and develop their academic writing skills.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Critically evaluate and synthesize research literature on a specified topic.

■ Appropriately use research methodologies to address research question/s.

■ Design, plan, and conduct a research project within their area of research interest, advancing the field of clinical psychology science.

■ Analyse data and communicate findings from their research investigation.
