Course Aims

The course aims to:

■ Provide students with hands on practical experience of performing and interpreting data from a range of common exercise physiology laboratory tests

■ Provide students with experience of reviewing scientific literature to formulate a relevant research question with testable hypotheses

■ Provide students with the experience of designing and undertaking a practical laboratory-based exercise physiology project

■ Provide students with experience of analysing, interpreting and critically evaluating data collected

■ Provide students with experience of communicating research findings in a scientific report

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

Perform and interpret data from a range of common exercise physiology laboratory tests

Review the literature to identify a relevant research question in the field of exercise physiology

Formulate clear aims/hypotheses to be addressed in an exercise physiology mini-research project

Design and undertake a laboratory-based exercise physiology project to address these aims/hypotheses

Critically review and analyse the data collected

Critically interpret their data in the context of other evidence in the scientific literature

Communicate their findings clearly and concisely in a written report

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
